Dear families,

Despite the difficulties associated with the announcement of the quarantine, a large majority of you have managed to come back to London to be present for the start of the school year. This is also the case for almost all CFBL’s staff.

This will allow us to have a return to school according to the schedule originally planned.

For your information, 700 students are expected for this new academic year. All classes are welcomed from the 2nd September.

Please find below important information in view of the start of September 2020.

1. Organisation of the return day of the 2nd September 2020

Every students – when quarantine is not required – will be welcomed from 2nd September according to the planning below (each family will be asked to fill out a sworn statement confirming their location the last 15 days). Please be aware the canteen will not be functioning on that day.

a. Planning for Primary pupils

Nursery (from 8:30am to 10am) and Reception (from 10:15am to 11:45am)

  • Pupils will be welcomed via Cathcart Street
  • Pupils will be welcomed in class
  • We have allowed 30 minutes for parents – wearing masks – to stay in the class with their children
  • When picking up your child, please collect her/him at your child’s class

Year 1 (from 8:30am to 10am) : LAST NAMES FROM A TO M

  • Pupils will be welcomed via Cathcart Street
  • Pupils will be welcomed in class
  • We have allowed 30 minutes for parents – wearing masks – to stay in the class with their children if the child really needs it
    If not, parents will have to stay outside for sanitary reasons
  • When picking up your child, please collect her/him at the playground at 10am

Year 1 (from 10:15am to 11:45am) : LAST NAMES FROM N to Z

  • Pupils will be welcomed via Cathcart Street
  • Pupils will be welcomed in class
  • We have allowed 30 minutes for parents – wearing masks – to stay in the class with their children
  • When picking up your child, please collect her/him at the playground.

Year 2 – Year 3 – Year 4 – Year 5 – Year 6 (from 8:45am to 12pm)

  • Year 2 and 3: Pupils will be welcomed via Cathcart Street
  • Year 4 – 5 – 6: Pupils will be welcomed via Willes Road
  • When picking up your child, please collect her/him at the playground.

b. Planning for Secondary pupils

  • Every Secondary pupil will have to wear a mask and will come to CFBL with a notebook (or loose paper) and a pen
  • Pupils will be welcomed via Willes Road
  • They will then have access to class listing
  • They will then stand in line in the courtyard where the form teacher will bring them to class
  • No parent or carer will be allowed to enter the building

from 8:15am to 11:00am: Year 7

from 9:15am to 11:30am: Year 10

from 1:15pm to 3:30pm: Year 9

from 1:45 to 4pm: Year 8

  • From the 3rd September 2020, students will have class according to their planning
  • Respect social distancing and stagger the entrance and exit of the school

a. Main actions

  • Wearing face masks will be mandatory for adults  (as long as two people are in a room) and for Secondary pupils. Primary pupil may or not wear a mask
  • Each year class will constitute a bubble where mixing will be allowed
  • Each class will have its own room, including Secondary classes – except for sciences, IT, music or art
  • No adult meeting will be allowed in the school – except staff members meeting. Social distancing will be maintained during the meetings – 2m apart at least – or via Zoom to avoid any risk of virus spread among CFBL staff
  • This rules can be changed if needed/necessary

b. Arrivals and flows management

Entrance

  • CFBL will welcome pupils thanks to its 3 entrances:
    The entrance for Year 4, Year 5, Year 6 and Secondary pupils will be on Willes Road
  • The entrance for Nursery and Reception pupils will be on Cathcart street
  • The entrance for Year 1, 2 and 3 will be through Cathcart street portal
  • No parent or carer will be allowed to enter the building – except for Nursery and Reception parents (beginning and end of the day) and Year 1 parents (in the morning)
  • Students – from Year 2 – will meet in a designated space in the courtyard
  • Pupils will be supervised by an adult to access class
  • There will be a one-way traffic flow in the corridor and the stairs
  • Doors must stay open at all times – except fire door
  • Students must wash their hands with soap and gel when they arrive
  • No lockers for Secondary pupils

Exit

  • Exits will be as usual. Primary parents are allowed to access the courtyard – only if they wear a face mask – at the end of the day (except for Nursery and Reception pupils where parents or carers will have to pick them up in class).

c. Hand washing, toilets, drinks

  • Water fountains will be out of use
  • Hands must be washed at least, before entering the classroom, especially after recesses or changing rooms
  • We are working on new mobile sinks
  • Water bottle will be allowed

d. Use of classroom material 

  • Try to use individual material
  • Each teacher will get her/his own material: mouse, keyboard, pen, chalkboard brush
  • Avoid material to circulate from CFBL to home
  • Each Secondary pupil will bring a big bag to store his/her personal belongings – that will replace the use of lockers

 e. Recess 

  • Each courtyard will be divided in two spaces (extended bubbles)
  • Forbid all contact and ball games as well as all games that would entail the exchange of objects
  • Secondary pupils will have the possibility to remove the mask in certain circumstances

f. Lunch break

  • The canteen will be divided in 3 spaces: Secondary / Year 3 to Year 6 / Nursery, reception, adults
  • Once a week Year 3 pupils will get a lunch pack provided by CFBL
  • Stagger times in the common areas and lunch breaks to reduce the number of people:
    3 slots organised for pupils – spaces will be defined for each class – no queue outside. In each slot: between 80 and 100 Secondary pupils, 60 Elementary pupils – Year 2 to 6 -, 50 pupils from Nursery and Reception
  • Staff members will be asked to register beforehand to access the canteen – 18 seats available at a time
  • We will make the main organisation easier to respect social distancing in the corridors and in the circulation areas
  • Tables will be sprayed and wiped between slots

g. Clubs and childcare

As announced before the holidays, there will not be any Clubs during the first trimester. Childcare will start from 7th September. Klubhouse will start from 9th September. They will respect the bubbles principle.

h. Cleaning

Same organisation as the post-lockdown return to school – please see protocols here -. But there will more space to cover and we might introduce new technics of cleaning.

3. For the pupils

The main goals of the September – October period will be:

  • Manage the return of students after 6 months of remote learning: on emotional, mental, knowledge and education matters
  • Assess the knowledge of the students after remote learning period
  • Help and give students the tools they need to acquire knowledge
