Diversity and Inclusion day

In the run-up to Diversity and Inclusion day Year 2 pupils read Kindness is my superpower and discussed what constitutes a random act of kindness towards others. They thought about reasons why someone might need kindness shown to them and made a corridor display with their ideas in the hope of encouraging others. On the day itself both Year 2 teachers had lots of interesting discussions with the children based on reading Isaac and his Amazing Asperger Superpowers, What happened to you? and watching children interview a blind person with a guide dog. Year 2 pupils shared experiences of their own visual, hearing or physical impairments and explained things they would like people to do to help them at work and play.

Year 2 also worked on a cross-curricular project of Cinderella Around the World, reading books from different countries and tying in QLM, Art and Music. The music teacher helped them explore typical sounds and instruments from the countries where the stories were set, and through this project Year learnt a lot about different countries and cultures.
