From 21 to 24 April 2026, 5ème/Year8 students travelled to Stratford-upon-Avon for an enriching and unforgettable trip centred around Shakespeare’s Henry V.
The journey began early on Tuesday morning, as students departed from school and arrived in Stratford-upon-Avon later that day. After settling into their accommodation at the YHA hostel, they took part in a fascinating behind-the-scenes tour of the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) Theatre. They explored costumes, props, and even tried on historical headwear, bringing theatre history to life. The day ended with a fun treasure trail competition and an evening of games.
On Wednesday, students deepened their understanding of Shakespeare’s life and legacy. They visited Holy Trinity Church, where Shakespeare was baptised and buried, before exploring his birthplace and learning about his early years. In the afternoon, they enjoyed a relaxing boat ride along the River Avon. A bespoke drama workshop at the RSC allowed them to engage actively with Henry V, developing their confidence and interpretative skills.
Thursday was another highlight of the trip. Students participated in a second drama workshop, further exploring themes, characters, and performance techniques. Later, they visited Shakespeare’s New Place, discovering the history of his family home. In the evening, they attended a live performance of Henry V at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, an inspiring experience that brought their learning to life.
On the final day, students visited Anne Hathaway’s Cottage, gaining insight into Shakespeare’s personal life. After some free time in Stratford-upon-Avon, they returned to school with lasting memories.
Throughout the trip, students demonstrated curiosity, enthusiasm, and excellent behaviour. The visit not only enriched their understanding of Shakespeare but also strengthened their appreciation for theatre, history, and culture.
