Les Petits Champions de la Lecture: a large-scale read-aloud competition at CFBL

On 14 January, pupils in CM1 and CM2 (Years 5 and 6) took part with great enthusiasm in a large-scale read-aloud competition to elect the CFBL representatives as part of Les Petits Champions de la Lecture. This national programme aims to foster a love of reading and develop oral fluency, in a spirit of fun and sharing. Each pupil prepares an extract from a book of their choice and reads it aloud before a jury, which pays close attention to clarity, expression, respect for the text and the ability to engage the audience. These readings help pupils build confidence while sharing their pleasure in reading with their classmates.

For this stage at CFBL, each house selected two pupils to represent it. These readers then performed in front of a jury made up of four members of staff, one from each house. After deliberation, Paulin (Faeroceler) and Izia (Lamperfly) were chosen as CFBL’s representatives. They will have the opportunity to meet pupils from other French schools in the United Kingdom on 25 February at the Institut français for the next stage of this major competition.

Congratulations to all the pupils who took part, for their courage, preparation and enthusiasm. A new stage awaits them soon, with more wonderful readings to discover and powerful emotions to share.
