National Poetry Day

Year 9B took part in a special live masterclass on National Poetry Day, organised by the British Library and led by the fantastic author Manjeet Mann, a novelist who writes in verse. She also launched her latest book, Roar, which sparked a lot of interest among some of the pupils. The pupils wrote many fantastic verses during the rapid poetry exercises and will certainly return to their notes to turn them into complete poems.

They baked cakes and shared these delicious treats as part of our poetry celebration.

Year 9A enjoyed a selection of poetry games while sharing their baking skills and celebrating the event with cakes... and oranges.

Their teacher thought it would be appropriate to read a poem by Brian Patten, who had recently passed away, and, inspired, they all shared the joyful scent of oranges and discovered that even though they were easy to peel... it took special skills to savour their flavour and enjoy their vitamin C!

Ms Percetti and Ms Zai are organising a "Spine Poetry" competition for Year 9 pupils, which will continue until all pupils have taken part.
