PSHE & EVARS Programme: Educating for respect, safety and kindness

Our school offers a comprehensive programme of education in wellbeing, safety and living together, based on two complementary components: PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education) and EVARS (Education in Emotional, Relational and Sexual Life). Together, these two approaches offer pupils a coherent pathway to understanding their development, respecting others and becoming responsible citizens.

PSHE: Health, Safety and Positive Relationships

Inspired by the British programme, PSHE supports pupils in their physical and mental health, addressing topics such as hygiene, managing emotions, self-esteem and addiction prevention. It also plays an essential role in safety education, particularly through the responsible use of digital technology, the prevention of cyberbullying, and workshops conducted with the NSPCC on consent and online risks.

The programme also encourages the development of positive relationships based on empathy, gender equality, combating stereotypes and constructive conflict resolution. Finally, citizenship plays an important role, reminding pupils of their rights and responsibilities and raising their awareness of the fight against all forms of discrimination.

EVARS: A new programme this year

New this year in all French schools, EVARS (equivalent to PSHE) reinforces emotional, relational and sexual education. It helps pupils to get to know themselves better, to understand their bodies, their intimacy and their emotions, and supports them through the changes associated with puberty. The programme also contributes to the prevention of harassment and gender-based or sexual violence, while encouraging healthy relationships based on consent, respect and caring communication.

The topics covered vary according to the age of the pupils and include managing emotions, combating stereotypes and the risks associated with social media.

Actions throughout the year

This learning is enriched by prevention workshops, weekly PSHE/EVARS sessions and presentations by health, nutrition and digital safety professionals. The school year is also punctuated by key events such as Anti-Bullying Week, Black History Month and Press Week, which reinforce the values of respect, inclusion and citizenship.

Kindness at the heart of our approach

Throughout the PSHE & EVARS programme, kindness is the guiding principle of our educational approach. Pupils are encouraged to express their emotions, develop empathy and understand the feelings of others, in an environment where everyone feels listened to and respected. Learning positive communication and peaceful conflict resolution also contributes to creating a calm and inclusive atmosphere within the school.

Through PSHE and EVARS, our school is committed to providing a safe, respectful and fulfilling environment, and to supporting each pupil in developing essential skills for their personal, social and civic future.
