Year 9 Exchange in Valencia: A Cultural and Linguistic Immersion

Year 9 students studying Spanish recently took part in an exciting school exchange in Valencia, Spain – a fantastic opportunity to experience Spanish language and culture through full immersion.

Upon arrival, the students were warmly welcomed by their correspondents and host families from our partner school, the Lycée Français de Valence. Staying with local families gave students the chance to practise their Spanish in authentic situations while discovering everyday life and traditions in Valencia.

Throughout the week, students enjoyed a rich programme of cultural and educational activities. One of the highlights was visiting the spectacular City of Arts and Sciences, including an immersive experience at the Hemisfèric, as well as exploring the Oceanogràfic, the largest aquarium in Europe.

The group also explored the city and its heritage, including a visit to the lively Mercado de Ruzafa, where students discovered local products and the atmosphere of a traditional Valencian market. Another particularly popular activity was taking part in a paella workshop, during which students learned how to prepare the region’s most iconic dish.

Students also had the opportunity to try new activities that are popular in Spain, such as padel, as well as enjoying a lively salsa class, adding a fun and energetic dimension to the programme.

Beyond the visits and activities, the exchange was above all a valuable human experience. Spending time with their Spanish correspondents allowed students to build new friendships, gain confidence speaking Spanish and develop their cultural awareness.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Lycée Français de Valence, to the host families for their warm welcome, and to the teachers and staff who organised the trip and helped make this wonderful experience possible.

We now look forward to welcoming the Valencian students to London in the near future!
