To mark National Poetry Day on Thursday 1 October, some of our Secondary students took part in a collaborative poetry project: the creation of a giant ‘Wonderwall’, an initiative led by Miss Silva, their English teacher.
The idea was simple: each participating student was invited to write one original poetic line beginning with “I wonder…”. All of these contributions were then brought together to form one collective poem, reflecting the imagination, questions and voices of our Secondary students.
The project was introduced to students during their English lessons, with a few examples provided to spark their creativity. The aim was to offer an activity that was quick, creative and accessible to everyone, while also producing an original collective piece.
Throughout the day, the different contributions were added to the Wonderwall, displayed outside the canteen, where students and members of the school community were able to stop, read and enjoy the collective poem.
The initiative gave each student the opportunity to let their imagination run free and to contribute, in just a few words, to a shared creation.
A wonderful way to celebrate poetry together and to show how individual thoughts can come together to create something unique.
