This week, 5C students took part in a discussion with our Canteen Manager about nutrition and the menu currently offered at CFBL.
During the session, several topics were explored, including the importance of plant-rich food, the impact our food choices can have on the climate, and the need to reduce food waste.
At the end of the session, students were invited to think about two questions: how could we further reduce food waste in the canteen, and what dishes or new ideas would they like to see on the menu?
The students enthusiastically took part in the exercise. Maya even produced a detailed handwritten report featuring a range of suggestions, as well as a useful website offering plant-based recipes. It was wonderful to see how much thought and enthusiasm she had put into her ideas.
And the students’ suggestions will not stop there: several dishes proposed by 5C will feature in our next menu cycle, including Quiche Lorraine, vegetarian quiche, falafel wraps and Maya’s vegan sweet potato pie.
To show students how their feedback is being acted upon, a “You Said, We Did” display will also be introduced in the dining room. This will highlight students’ suggestions and the changes made as a result of their feedback.
A big thank you to all the 5C students for taking the time to share their ideas and suggestions. It is a great way to involve students in the life of the canteen while raising awareness of more sustainable and responsible food choices.
