The Megabrain Competition: when the houses go head-to-head in a battle of brains!

Since December, the school has been buzzing with excitement as the Megabrain Competition gets under way — a major academic challenge bringing together the four houses: Lamperfly, Bellynxhorse, Chlorofox and Faeroceler.
Launched with an opening match between Chlorofox and Faeroceler, the competition will continue until its much-anticipated grand final on 12 January, a date eagerly awaited by all pupils.

A rich and varied competition

The Megabrain Competition puts pupils’ general knowledge, logic, memory and speed of thinking to the test. The questions cover a wide range of subjects:

History: the kings of England, the end of the First World War (11 November 1918), the Battle of Waterloo, the first nuclear test in 1945, as well as major inventions.

Geography: world capitals (Ottawa, Stockholm, Abuja), countries and flags, famous mountains such as Mount Everest and Kilimanjaro, oceans and continents.

Science: the solar system, the planets (Mars and its two moons, Phobos and Deimos), the human body, fascinating animals, and key laws of physics such as E = mc².

Mathematics: mental arithmetic, prime numbers, geometry, logic puzzles and problem-solving.

Sport: football, rugby, tennis, the Olympic Games, Wimbledon, Formula 1 and many other disciplines.

Art, music and literature: famous painters, composers, Harry Potter, Dickens, The Iron Man, War Horse, and the world’s greatest museums.

Sometimes surprising questions

Among the many questions asked, some particularly stood out for the pupils:

  • What was the first form of money? → shells

  • How many time zones does Russia have? → 11

  • What is the national animal of Australia? → the red kangaroo

  • Who painted the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel? → Michelangelo

  • What fell on Isaac Newton’s head? → an apple

  • What is the largest country in the world by land area? → Russia

Specialists in every house

Each house can rely on pupils who are experts in their specialist subjects:
Minecraft, Harry Potter, Greek mythology, astrophysics, sport, music, art, board games and Formula 1. These specialisms allow teams to shine and support one another during the most challenging rounds.

A spirit of fair play and curiosity

Beyond points and rankings, the Megabrain Competition is above all a shared adventure — a chance to learn while having fun, discover new interests and strengthen team spirit. Encouragement rings out, answers are shared, and each round builds pupils’ confidence.

Join us on 12 January to find out which house will win… but one thing is certain: in this competition, everyone gains knowledge!
