Viennese Waltz in German Lessons

As part of their German LV2 lessons, Year 8 students took part in a session dedicated to music and cultural discovery. Accompanied by a professional dance teacher who came into the classroom, the students learned the steps of the Viennese Waltz before putting them into practice to Johann Strauss’s famous The Blue Danube, one of the best-known waltzes in the world. Johann Strauss is often referred to as the “King of Waltz”.

The students thoroughly enjoyed this lively and engaging experience. The session gave them the opportunity to discover an iconic Austrian tradition while developing their sense of rhythm, coordination and enjoyment of dancing together.

Perhaps one day they will travel to Vienna themselves and take part in the famous Viennese Ball Season, which brings the Austrian capital to life several times throughout the year. A wonderful cultural experience that allowed students to immerse themselves, for an afternoon, in the heart of Viennese traditions.
