September in the canteen: seasonal flavours and discoveries

Throughout September, CFBL pupils took part in a range of food-related activities as part of this month’s focus on energy, smart snacking, seasonal British produce and provenance.

A colourful display of seasonal British fruit and vegetables encouraged pupils to discover what is available at this time of year and to learn more about where their food comes from.

To celebrate the Harvest Festival, pupils were also invited to enjoy a special tasting table featuring homemade wholemeal and rosemary bread, onion and plum chutney, and fruit crumble.

The tasting was accompanied by educational displays explaining the journey from wheat to bread, how preserving food can help us enjoy the harvest for longer, and some of the ways we can reduce food waste.

A tasty and practical way for pupils to learn more about their food, discover local and seasonal produce, and think about making more responsible food choices.
