Year 9 Trip to China: A Cultural and Linguistic Immersion

Our Year 9 pupils recently took part in a trip to China, designed as a genuine immersion into Chinese language, culture and everyday life.

Upon arrival, pupils were welcomed into the programme before spending the weekend discovering local life. These first few days gave them the opportunity to observe, exchange and engage with a different cultural environment.

The trip continued with an authentic immersive school experience, allowing pupils to gain a closer understanding of school life in China. They also took part in Chinese lessons, building on their classroom learning in a real-life context.

The cultural programme was particularly rich: an in-depth study tour of the Forbidden City, a visit to the hutongs, a day dedicated to traditional Chinese intangible cultural heritage, a Chinese calligraphy workshop, a full-day trip to the Great Wall, as well as several shared moments around iconic meals such as Peking duck and hot pot.

The closing ceremony offered a chance to reflect on the highlights of the experience before departure and the return journey.

This trip gave pupils a valuable opportunity to strengthen their language skills, deepen their cultural understanding and develop their curiosity, independence and openness to the world.
